Project completed October 2015. Cafe design, project management, renovation and furniture production by Prescott Trudeau, NOLA Art Dept.
900 Camp Street, Warehouse District, New Orleans LA
The main project objective was to redesign the cafe floorplan, making room for contemporary arts bookshop "The Stacks". The new layout needed to function as cafe, bookstore, meeting space, and exhibition venue.
We built the new bar first, choosing to move it midway into the space in order to provide easy access to the back kitchen. The sharp angles of the bar played off the existing architecture and the tiered surfaces produced multiple work and display areas.
While waiting for our new quartz bar top, we built three 3'x5' tables using beautiful 2"x12" cypress boards. Here we're testing colors before making any final marks.
Recently rebranded, the CAC's logo makes great use of simple solid lines, which we incorporated into the design for the cafe tables.
The finished tables have 1" square steel tubing legs and can be assembled into one great long table, or, being light as feather, can be rearranged as necessary.
Here they are at work.
Most of the bookshop furniture was moved from The Stacks previous location, but we had the opportunity to help them out with one small piece of furniture....
The store register!
